INVESTIGATIVE REPORT Density of Demodex folliculorum in Perioral Dermatitis

چکیده
The role of Demodex folliculorum in perioral dermatitis is not satisfactory explained. Our purpose was to assess the density of D. folliculorum in perioral dermatitis and evaluate the relationship of the mite count to previous therapy with topical steroids. A standardized skin surface biopsy of the chin was performed in 82 female patients with perioral dermatitis and in 70 control female subjects. Patients who received previous topical steroid therapy had a significantly higher mite density than the patients who had received no topical steroids (pv0.001). In the latter group of patients, the mite density did not differ significantly from that of the control group (p50.629). Mite density increased significantly with the length of treatment with topical steroids (pv0.001). Our results suggest that increased density of D. folliculorum in perioral dermatitis is a secondary phenomenon, associated with topical steroid therapy.

Bacillus cereus strain isolated from Demodex folliculorum in patients with topical steroid-induced rosaceiform facial dermatitis*
The aim of the study was to identify Bacillus species from the Demodex folliculorum of patients with topical steroidinduced facial rosaceiform dermatitis. Of the 75 patients examined, 20% had clinical spinulosis, while 18.66% had dermoscopic features of Demodex: follicular plugs and tails. Of the 17.33% positive patients identified upon microscopy for Demodex, samples for bacterial culture were...
متن کاملHistopathologic Study of Rosacea and the Role of Demodex Folliculorum
Background and Objective: Rosacea is a common and ill-defined disease and Demodex folliculorum has been reported in rosacea in a number of clinical studies. Since demodex mite is present in many healthy individuals, the mite may have a pathogenic role only when it is present in high densities. Therefore,...
متن کاملIdentification of demodex ectoparasite and its association with facial skin lesions among in women
Background and Aim: Demodex is a common mite and ectoparasite in humans and animals. The existence of Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis in human skin can have a role in some inflammatory skin diseases such as acne, rosacea, and dermatitis. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of Demodex ectoparasite in women and its possible association with skin lesions. Methods: Fifty women wi...

Demodex folliculorum, commonly known as the follicle mite is a parasite of man in all parts of the globe. It was discovered independently by He:Qle (1841) and Berger (1845). Simon (1842) described it as Acarus folliculorum. Owen (1843) reevaluated the genus as Demodex. According to Akbulatova (1963) there are two subspecies namely Demodex folliculorum longus and Demodex folliculorum brevis, syn...
متن کاملInduction of rosaceiform dermatitis during treatment of facial inflammatory dermatoses with tacrolimus ointment.
BACKGROUND Tacrolimus ointment is increasingly used for anti-inflammatory treatment of sensitive areas such as the face, and recent observations indicate that the treatment is effective in steroid-aggravated rosacea and perioral dermatitis. We report on rosaceiform dermatitis as a complication of treatment with tacrolimus ointment. OBSERVATIONS Six adult patients with inflammatory facial derm...
